Installing Wordpress

wp-robot

How to install a brand spanking new Wordpress blog via your Control Panel in your hosting Admin area. You’re just a click (or two) away.

Wordpress installation in the past could only be done manually which frightened away anyone slightly technophobic ( I was one once and to a certain extent remain so today) but with newer versions of the Wordpress platforms and many hosting companies introducing one-click installs it really simple.

This is why blog platforms that are NOT hosted by you were the easier option were you technically challenged e.g. Blogger.com, Wordpress.com (NOT Wordpress.org which is an entirely different beast and the one we are discussing here). The problem of having a blog that is, in reality, not owned by you is that you don’t have 100% control.

More on that in this audio:

Glossary/Explanation of Techy Terms and Stuff used in this tutorial:

  • Hosting/Hosting Company: Your web site or blog has to sit somewhere i.e. on a big specialised computer called a Server where it can be accessed when somebody types a www. address into a Browser address bar. Hosting companies rent you space on their storage computers (known as Servers).
  • C-Panel: Stands for Control Panel. The admin area for your hosting account where you can add all kinds of stuff to your site including, most importantly, a Wordpress blog.
  • Fantastico: A feature in many C-Panels that allows for you to install a Wordpress blog in an easy step by step process and so avoid a manual installation.

Nikki said your stuff made a hell of a lot more sense than the “official” word press tutorials, so I’m giving blog briefing a serious test drive and things are looking reassuringly promising and promisingly reassuring so far.
